Flagyl – the quickly absorbed antibiotic fighting anaerobic microorganisms

Flagyl is a high-quality medication agreeable to all medical standards and norms. It has the strong antibacterial and anti-protozoan effect. It is the antibiotic of wide range of application especially towards the anaerobic microorganisms (those forming and not forming the spores). The active element of metronidazole blocks the further development of such simple organisms like Lamblia, Giardia intestinalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica. It is effectively fighting anaerobic microorganisms like Veillonella, Prevotella, Peptostreptococcus, Fusobacterium, Clostridium sp., Bacteroides sp., etc.

It is quickly and totally absorbed within 8-10 hours, easily interfering the human tissues, lungs, kidneys, skin, liver, etc.

Flagyl is usually prescribed for treating amebiasis, lambliasis, trichomoniasis, and other inflammatory diseases of vagina, and anaerobic caused surgery infections. The medication is usually taken orally during the meals or after the meals.

In cases of Amebiasis diseases Flagyl is taken orally and the daily amount is 1,5 g in three times during the day. For treating children the amount depends on the weight, usually 30-40 mg per kilo daily. When treating lambliosis, adults are prescribed to take 750-1000 mg of metronidazole daily. In treating trichomonias infections women are prescribed to take 2 g per day or Flagyl may be also prescribed for the 10 days treatment course taken 2 times with daily dose of 250 mg. When treating unspecific vaginitis Flagil is prescribed to be taken twice a day 500 mg daily during one week period of time. When treating anaerobic infections adults are usually prescribed to take 1-1,5 g daily, children are prescribed to take 20-30 mg per kilo per day.

Flagyl intravenous treatment is prescribed only when other ways of taking the medication are impossible or in a very serious medical cases. This drug is not prescribed for people with high susceptibility to imidazoles, for nursing mothers, because it interferes the breast milk. It is strictly forbidden to use alcohol during the period of Flagyl treatment, as the concentration of Lithium in plasma may critically increase. There may appear some side effects, like metal taste in the mouth or anorexia, headaches, vertigo, skin allergic reactions. It is possible that urine changes its color. Don’t be afraid if it becomes brown-red color. It happens due to the presence of pigments connected with metabolism of Flagyl.

Flagyl may be combined with other antibiotics and sulfanilamide. It is not recommended to combine Flagyl with disulphirame, anticoagulants and with non depolarizing miorelaxants. It is advisable that additional blood tests are made when the long-term treatment is carried out.
